Abstract
The article explores the issues related to the adaptation of the latest loanwords that are entering or have already entered the Ukrainian language space through word formation. The specificities of creating new derivative words from foreign lexemes by suffixation have been elucidated.
Productive specific suffixes have been identified, with the help of which new nouns, adjectives, and verbs are formed, which are actively used in the mass media. The study presents formants what used to create new words, especially nouns denoting the names of persons belonging to certain professions, the suffixes -ник, -ик and -яр are most often used; for creating abstract names, the suffixes -ств-, -нн- are productive. For adjective derivatives, the addition of the suffixes -ов-, -ск-, and –н– to borrowed bases is characteristic. Among the verb formations, the suffixes –и– and -ува- are active in producing derivatives.
It is noted that in journalistic texts, among neologisms, word-forming variants are often found – words formed from the same roots, but with the help of different formants. Those hybrid lexemes, formed mainly from anglicisms, whose use in modern Ukrainian mass media discourse is not justified, are also presented.
Key words: neo-borrowings, anglicisms, word-formation adaptation, словотвірне освоєння, suffixation, suffix, formant.
