Heading: Word in Oles Honcharʼs fiction
Language: Ukrainian
Abstract: In the life of Ukraine of the twentieth century, the role and significance of the personality of Oles Honchar are unique. The youth of my generation, student and student years went by his name, grew up and formed on the ideals of the service of the Motherland of his immortal flag bearers, the moral purity and love of Yuri Brianskyi and Shura Yasnogorsk, sought in the heavy daily heroism of soldiers – the heroes of the novel – memorable features of their dead parents. In the image of Yuri Brianskyi, I represented my father, a machine gunner of Ivan Nedbayl, who now lies in a fraternal grave. Humbled, reading about the heavy trials of our people in the novels Tavria and Perekop, «Man and weapons» comprehended the beauty of everyday life and the philosophy of the greatness and problems of modern life in the «Trons», «The Cyclone», «The Bereas of Love», were looking for still looking for cathedrals of their own souls under the infl uence of the novel «Cathedral». The moral maxims of Oles Honchar: “In just armies, the fate is always beautiful”, “The highest beauty – the beauty of fi delity” have become aphorisms and still have not lost their signifi cance, as did not read his linguistic world, but did not deceive the beauty of his lyricepic idiollect since the fl owering the garden (“Cherry blossoms”, 1938) and the blue spring sky (“Modra Kamin” in 1946) and to this day. Oles Honchar is an intellectual of the world, an ideal of Ukrainian national dignity, the most advanced stylist of contemporary Ukrainian prose, and the personality is passionate.
Those who are deeply aware of the work of Oles Terentiiovych who listened deeply to his deeply philosophical, sensible speeches, would agree that it was a man of high purity and conscience, a viable philosophy and organic patriotism. I personally impressed me and became a lesson for a lifetime performance – Oles Terentiiovychʼs report as chairman of the Writersʼ Union of Ukraine at the Congress of Writers in the hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. We, several members of the student literary studio, invited the Union to the congress. Especially we liked the sincere, desirable, motive and reasoning tone of the wise sentences of the experienced Oles, a language teacher who turned to the youth. He spoke about the mission of language and literature, that at all times simple people lived in the most very diffi cult, but they sought resistance and support in the word, art, literature. These are the words: “In all past epochs were their everyday troubles and worries, there was labor in the sweat of the forehead for the sake of living, but to us through ages, through the fog of far reaching not everyday, but the holidays of the human spirit, arrive masterpieces of Hellenic sorcerers, shining the rising of the Parthenon, from under the shell of oblivion there appear, like a miracle, brilliant creatures; masterpieces of folk architecture, the inimitable beauty of the St. Sophia Cathedral, the artistic epic, the immortality of dumas and songs through the centuries, the creative genius of the Ukrainian people is fl owing through us through the ages. Letʼs breathe the spirit! Thinking about the great!”
