Heading: The word of Oles Honchar in the dictionary
Language: Ukrainian

Abstract: The phraseology in the artistic works of O. Honchar was the subject of linguistic research in the works of L. Shcherbachuk, Yu. Kokhan. Among the lexical-and-grammatical categories of phraseologisms, L. Shcherbachuk paid attention to the semantic-and-stylistic function of exclamational and comparative units in the works of the writer. Analyzing the individual-and-authorial transformations of the frazemas, the researcher noted that they donʼt contradict the linguistic norm and hoped that after some time they will be represented in phraseological dictionaries.

Putting the parallel between the writerʼs worldview and the phraseologismʼs selection, Yu. Kokhan believes that since the worldview of O. Honchar is based on romanticism and lyricism, phraseological units also led to the predominant use of units with lyrical-and-romantic coloration. Also, according to own calculations, the researcher highlighted the frazemas-favorites, the most commonly used units in the works of O. Honchar, (such as: раз у раз, день у день, на край світу).

Phraseological contexts from the works of O. Honchar are marked by a high degree of frequency in phraseological dictionaries. 2708 contexts were recorded in two volumes of Phraseological Dictionary of Ukrainian Language (1993) (Фразеологічний словник української мови), Dictionary of Phraseologisms of Ukrainian Language (2003) (Словник фразеологізмів української мови), Dictionary of Phraseological Antonyms of the Ukrainian Language (2004) (Словник фразеологічних антонімів української мови), Dictionary of Phraseological Synonyms (1988) (Словник фразеологічних синонімів), Phraseological Dictionary of the Ukrainian Language (1998) (Фразеологічний словник української мови).

The phraseological units from the works of O. Honchar are grouped according to the correlation to the syntactic construction. The groups are divided according to the structures: a phrase (золотий дощ – golden rain), a combination of words (з вітерцем – with a breeze), homogeneous parts of the sentence (ходи й виходи – entrances and exits), a part of the compound sentence (як у воду дивитися – as look into the water), a simple sentence (в жилах тече голуба кров – the blue blood fl ows in the veins). According to the syntactic function of nominative phraseologisms and depending on the part of speech they relate, we distinguish nominal, processual, adjective, adverbial, quantitative units.

The majority of phraseologisms, illustrated by the contexts from the works of O. Honchar, donʼt have stylish and stylistic characteristics. Some phrases have a stylistic mark bookish, temporal outdated, emotional-and-expressive humorous, disparaging. It proves that the artist improved the exemplary literary language first of all.

Key words: phraseological unit, phraseology of O. Honchar, phraseological dictionary, syntactic structure, nominal phraseologism, processual phraseologism, adjective phraseologism, adverbial phraseologism, quantitative phraseologism.
