Abstract
The article uses the concept of silence as one of the fundamental principles of human existence, which covers the characteristics of being, time, movement, analyzes the development of contextual lexical-semantic and stylistic nuances of the word in the language of Lesia Ukrainka.
Taking into account the common lexicographical interpretations of the token, the expansion of its semantic potential in poetic texts is traced, the formation of positive emotional and negative emotional meaning paradigms is shown. The positive emotional scale combines seven “calm”, “hope”, and the negative scale – seven “anxiety”, “pain”, “sadness”, “civil inaction”. Positive-emotional paradigm is created mainly by images of nature, and negative-value – philosophical and psychological understanding of the mental state of man at the turn of the XIX – early XX centuries. in the projection on the self-expression of Ukrainian national identity. Emphasis is placed on lexical and stylistic individual-author features in the depiction of the natural and sensual state of silence.
