Abstract
Proprietary vocabulary plays a significant role in the texts of folk tales. The most studied to date are the peculiarities of the functioning of omniums in fairy magic tales. However, in order to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the linguistic embodiment of the genre specificity of different types of folk tales, to find out what is common and different in the language of these works of oral folk literature, it is necessary to pay due attention to other tales, in particular social and household ones. The article deals with the names of supernatural beings functioning in the structure of social and household tales of the Ukrainian people. The peculiarities of the functioning of unreal characters and probable mythonyms in Ukrainian folk social and household tales are determined, and draws attention to their origin. We have noted that in the studied fairy tales, the analyzed names can denote both active characters who are directly involved in the action of the work and those who are outside the effective plan of the fairy tale. The article shows that, on the one hand, Ukrainian social and household tales retain the names of mythological creatures, and, on the other hand, they have added those associated with Christianity. Social fairy tales also feature characters of the real and unreal type, for example, Truth and Falsehood. Such characters emerge from the concepts of real life, which in certain circumstances (subject to active participation in the events of the work, i.e. performing actions inherent in humans) are anthropomorphised, while in other cases they remain abstract generalised concepts of real life. The names of mythical creatures described in this article are very often used in the texts of social and household tales not as a direct name of a mythical creature, but as a component of a swear word, a stable expression or a free phrase that creates a comic effect in the work. The depiction of characters in social and household tales is characterised by the broadest possible and most comprehensive typing, so in many tales of this type there is no individualisation of certain characters, and therefore no need to give them names.
Key words: Ukrainian folk tale, social and household fairy tale, probable mythonym, unreal character, theonimus, name of a saint.
