Abstract
The artistic biography of a writer is a popular genre among authors of educational literature, with its own history and traditions of didactic implementation. The life stories of prominent figures influence the formation of schoolchildren’s worldview, contribute to an understanding of the historical and cultural context of the era, while at the same time revealing the uniqueness of a particular personality.
The article proposes a linguistic and stylistic reception of linguistic markers of national identity in Maryna Pavlenko’s artistic and biographical texts (dialectisms, toponyms, folklorisms, diminutives, augmentatives, etc.). The research material consisted of texts from Ukrainian literature textbooks for 6th grade NUS by the authors T.O. Yatsenko, V.I. Pakharenko, O.A. Slyzhuk; O.I. Borzenko, I.L. Stolii; O.V. Kalynych, S.O. Diachok.
The inclusion of dialectisms in artistic and biographical texts contributes to the creation of an authentic linguistic space and natural communication between characters, conveying the cultural flavor of a particular region. Toponyms in the analyzed artistic biography perform not only a nominative-localization function, but also an indirect characteristic function. The use of folklore in artistic writing is usually associated with the need to reflect national cultural identity and convey the uniqueness of the national character. The expression of emotions has national characteristics and reflects what is known as a diminutive or augmentative “mentality”.
Maryna Pavlenko’s artistic and biographical texts generally follow the model of a traditional biography, taking into account the chronological sequence of events, carefully verified documentary evidence, and elements of artistic fiction. The author’s goal was “to provide as much truthful information about her characters as possible, based on memoirs, letters, diaries, notes, and works of art”. In each of the analyzed Ukrainian literature textbooks for the 6th grade of the NUS, the author’s text “Angels for Pavlus Tychyna” was shortened, which to a certain extent affected the completeness of the representation of selected linguistic markers of national identity.
Key words: linguistic stylistics, national identity, writer, textbook of Ukrainian literature, fictional and biographical text, language marker.
