Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the rhyme field of LANGUAGE and the discovery of rhyming means of reflecting the ethno-cultural specificity of Ukrainians. The structure formed by microfields and the lexical composition of the rhyme field of the LANGUAGE have been established. Attention is focused on the core lexeme мова, its rhyme-making paradigm and phonological types of rhymes based on it.
A comparison of the repertoire of real poetic rhymes, selected from the texts of poets of the 19th – the first quarter of the 21st century, and the fund of potential rhymes, collected in the common language dictionary of rhymes and the dictionary of rhyming associations, gave grounds to outline permanent rhyme pairs – rhyming clichés, in particular, the epistemological rhyme мова – слово, genetically related to the language of Ukrainian folklore and book poetry 17th–18th centuries, and a number of rhyme-culture-clichéd rhyme pairs, the second component of which are culturally significant words, word-symbols that create rhyming images of language that are understandable for the bearer of the Ukrainian identity: language that enters a person’s life from an early age from his mother along with her lullaby (мова – колискова), language, organic for Ukrainians, a kind of genetic code, the voice of blood, as well as the value for which a person is ready to shed his blood if necessary (мов – кров), language related to the spiritual health of the nation and the individual (мова – здорова), native language, the refusal of which indicates someone’s recklessness (безголовий – мови), language inspired by the “fire of love” (мови – любови), language as the basis of “spiritual life” (мова – основа), language associated with Lviv, a city that, according to stereotypes, is a symbol of Ukrainian identity (мова – Львова), literary language, to the formation of which efforts were made by classical writers (мова – Франкова), language that develops and updates (мова – обнова), the language that received the status of official, “mandatory” (мова – обов’язкова), a language whose history is associated with compulsions and prohibitions (мова – примусова), language, the belonging of which is decoded through an associative connection with ethno-cultural symbols (мова – діброва, мова – підкова, мова – Покрова). In poetic texts, such rhymes function as cultural rhymes and, in a broader interpretation, act as a linguistic means of preserving the identity of Ukrainians.
The rimological aspect of studying ethnocultural vocabulary expands knowledge about associative connections between key units of the language picture of the world of Ukrainians.
Key words: rhyme, rhymonym, rhymology, rhyme cliché, rhyme-cultureme, rime-gnoseologeme, style of rhyming.
