Abstract
The article presents a comprehensive analysis of tropes as individual authorial conceptualizers of the word-image war in the poetic texts of Bohdan Tomenchuk. The theoretical framework of the study is based on the view of a literary text as an associative-imagery model of the author’s worldview, in which a key word functions as a macro-image and unfolds through a system of trope-based devices. The relevance of the research is determined by the insufficient investigation of the tropeization of the lexeme war in contemporary Ukrainian poetic discourse, where it appears not only as a nomination of a historical and social phenomenon but also as an axiologically marked mental and cultural concept.
The aim of the article is to identify the specific features of trope-based conceptualization of the image of war and to determine the role of tropes in structuring the author’s vision of reality. The research material is Bohdan Tomenchuk’s poetry collection Vyshyite, Mamo, a Bulletproof Vest (Vishiyte, mamo, bronezhylet). The study employs lexico-semantic, linguo-cognitive, and contextual-interpretative methods of analysis.
It has been established that the image of war in the poetic text is formed primarily through a system of metaphors (verbal and nominal), similes, epithets, periphrases, oxymorons, and associonyms, which ensure the secondary semantization of the lexeme war and expand its figurative potential. The article identifies and analyzes metaphorical models of the personification of war, as well as occasional tropes that shape the individual authorial idiostyle-associonyms (graphically and semantically marked units that intensify textual expressiveness and activate intertextual and cultural codes).
It is concluded that various types of trope-based structures in the analyzed poetic text function as key means of the author’s conceptualization of the word-image war, forming its occasional semantic plane.
Key words: word-image, conceptualizer, poetic text, trope, metaphor, epithet, simile, oxymoron, associonym.
