Abstract
The article considers one of the basic concepts of philological hermeneutics, which is a hermeneutic subject. The dialogical nature of hermeneutics actualizes the need for a theoretical substantiation of the specifics of the hermeneutic subject, which is designed to “restore” the triad “author – text – reader” disturbed in the process of metamorphosis of European humanitarian thought. The distinctive features of the hermeneutic subject are characterized, its existential-cognitive integrity is emphasized, which is an indispensable condition of artistic communication through the realization of syncretic cognition of the artistic text.

Keywords: philological hermeneutics, hermeneutic subject, literary text, reader, researcher, language, consciousness, intentionality, word, meaning.
