Abstract
The article investigates the functional and stylistic potential of English borrowings in the speech practice of university students. The study focuses on the role of Anglicisms in differentiating between official and informal registers of communication. The author substantiates the functions of language economy, expressive coloring, and the creation of a professional microclimate.
A typology of the functional load of borrowings depending on the sphere of communication is developed. The research categorizes Anglicisms into several functional groups: academic-professional terminology, socio-evaluative slang, and digital-communication markers. Particular attention is paid to the stylistic transformations that Anglicisms undergo during their adaptation to the Ukrainian colloquial discourse.
The practical value of the work lies in the analysis of how the functional use of English lexemes contributes to the formation of a student’s communicative strategy. The study reveals that the stylistic role of an Anglicism changes from purely nominative in scientific texts to intensely expressive in informal student dialogue. The findings suggest that while Anglicisms simplify the naming of complex phenomena, their excessive use without stylistic reflection may lead to linguistic interference.
It is generalized that Anglicisms-slangisms in the surveyed environment have gone from episodic borrowings to systemic elements of speech, have demonstrated their main advantage in the updated globalized world, in the educational sphere, professional practice, and everyday conversational environment.
Key words: аnglicism, slangism, student speech, functional group of vocabulary, language economy, communicative situation.
